Featured Artists

Artists Brett & Lesley Campbell

These two Australian artists in my opinion are extraodinary. Their work is maticulous, clean and vibrant. The attention to detail, shading, and color makes their work stand apart.

They are both self-taught and the love for their craft comes through on each and every piece. Below you will find photos of some of their work and a link to their site as well as contact info.

My Art

Hi Folks!, I wanted to tell you a little about how I got started in mosaics and showcase my art. I hope that when you post here that you will do the same. How I got hooked on mosaics.... I sell collectables and vintage dinnerware on eBay, my store name is Collectable City (you can find my store by clicking on this link http://stores.ebay.com/Collectable-City_Mosaic-Tile-Sets ).
Many times when I would purchase a set of dinnerware at an auction or flea market I would have pieces that had seen better days. These pieces were not suitable for resale, some had chips cracks or crazing. I really love vintage dinnerware and could not bring myself to just put these lovely dishes in the trash. Before too long I had a rather large pile of "misfits". Can't sell them, can't throw them out, so now what?? A good friend of mine, Marty, gave me the idea to sell cut tile sets on eBay, what a genious! Problem solved, well sort of. I had no idea what I was doing; do I just take a plate and throw it on the floor then find the broom? I decided that method was not for me. I wanted to be able to control the breaks, or cuts and just smashing them to smitherines I was not going to be able to do that. My husband, Alan was the one that came up with the technique (and cash for the tools needed). Now I am not sure if this is how most people go about cutting dinner plates, but this is how I do it, I use a wet saw and then tile nippers for the smaller pieces. I will have more on this later in the blog included in the tutorials. Now when I go to a flea market, I LOOK for the chipped little misfits. I really enjoy creating these and I would like to share some of my latest tile sets with you. This was my very first attempt, pretty simple set. Not bad, but needing way more practice. A few more simple designs...... Getting a bit more complex.... This is one of my most recent sets.... still very much a novice. .
Ok now it's your turn, post your art !!!
Tomorrow I will share my favorite, well one of my favorite mosaic artists with you, she is incredible!
